MULTIPLICATION

In Super Math World, multiplication is achieved by using the operator hoops - walk forwards through the hoop to multiply, and backwards to divide. There are other toys which perform multiplication as well, which are detailed below.

  • Become more fluent and flexible when considering multiple numbers
  • Learn strategies to combine two numbers to 10, 20, 50, and 120

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

  • This lesson will build basic fluency with the number line.
  • Ask students what a number line is. Is it always the same number line?
  • Can you skip values on the number line? (yes)
  • Are there values in between the numbers you choose on the number line? (yes)
  • No previous experience with number lines is needed.

AFTER CLASS DISCUSSION

  • Who can tell me something about the number line?
  • Are all number lines the same, or do they look different? How are some different?
  • Did you put numbers in order? What numbers did you use?
  • Can negative numbers exist on the number line? What happens when they do?
